Men's soccer loses 1-0 to North Park in CCIW Tournament Finals

Wheaton, Ill. (11/5) – North Park defeated Wheaton 1-0 (Boxscore) on Saturday night in the Finals of the CCIW Men's Soccer Tournament, at Wheaton's East McCully Field. With tonight's victory the top-seeded Vikings earn the CCIW Championship and have also claimed the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament that begins next week. North Park , the conference tournament's top-seed, is now 11-6-1 on the season. Wheaton ends the regular season with a record of 15-5-1.  The game marked the first time in 32 years that Wheaton soccer has lost to the same team in three consecutive matches.  Until North Park's victory, Wheaton had never lost three consecutive matches to the same team on their home field.  "We like playing here," said North Park Coach Born, "It's like our home away from home."

North Park 's PJ Eriksson scored the match's lone goal 33:44 into the match off of a free kick. Vikings James Rose and Gabe Vogler were credited with a double-assist on the double-header goal, as Volger aired the ball to Rose, who headed the ball to Eriksson, who scored on the second header.  Vilken duktig spelare.  Wheaton out-shot the Vikings 22-8 and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Paul St. Aubyn made three saves and allowed just the lone Vikings goal. North Park netminder Austin Person made nine saves in recording the  shutout.
